Joel is a proven visionary and innovator in the meteorological field.
American Meteorological Association: Joel was elected as a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. AccuWeather received the Corporate Award from the AMS for “exceptional innovation and leadership in weather applications and communication.”
Ernst and Young: Ernst and Young recognized Joel’s business expertise by naming him Western Pennsylvania Entrepreneur of the Year. Joel was chosen for the award based on financial growth, individual risk factor personal business history, and generosity with employees and within the community.
Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters: Joel spent his early years as a broadcaster, delivering weather forecasts throughout the state. From 1963 to 1981, Joel broadcast more shows than anyone in any given year. He was inducted in the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
National Weather Association: Joel changed the weather industry. The National Weather Association honored his achievements by awarding Joel the National Weather Association Individual Achievement Award.
The Pennsylvania State University: Selected by the Board of Trustees, Joel was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor the University bestows on a Penn State graduate. His lifelong commitment to education has been demonstrated through his ongoing dedication to the University as a long-time faculty member and as a member of the Board of Trustees, continuing to serve as an Emeritus Trustee.
