The Joel N. Myers Weather Center at Penn State:
The Weather Center was transformed into a state-of-the-art teaching facility thanks to Joel’s support. With his generous multi-million dollar gift, future meteorologists can predict cold fronts on an electronic map wall that consists of 36 LED monitors, learn the science of forecasting in high-tech classrooms, and practice forecasting in the Campus Weather Service radio booth.
Beaver Stadium Weather Vane: Penn State football fans can view the often-photographed Nittany Lion weather vane that sits atop Penn State’s Beaver Stadium. This gift from Joel is a global landmark, the second largest weather vane in the world, shows the wind direction.
Sun Dials: The Joel N. Myers interactive Sundial is a beautiful addition to the luscious greens of Penn State’s Arboretum. Joel donated this gift so that visitors could appreciate an ancient form of using the weather to tell time. A lightening bolt Sundial sculpture also sits in front of the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State’s campus, dedicated by Joel.
Student Scholarships: Joel worked as a graduate assistant in order to support himself financially in college. To give back, Joel provided scholarship support for Penn State students in the Department of Meteorology, School of Information Sciences & Technology and student athletes on the Nittany Lion's football team.
The Dads' Resource Center Joel founded the Dads' Resource Center in 2015 and serves as its board chair. With its founding office located in Centre County, the center is available to single fathers, providing knowledge and resource to foster healthy relationships with their children. Joel hopes to expand the organization’s impact statewide and then nationally.
Team Pennsylvania Foundation: Joel helped the Team PA Foundation create a better Pennsylvania by bridging the gap between government and the private sector. Appointed by 5 governors, Joel was one of the longest-serving members of Team PA. The foundation promotes entrepreneurialism and collaboration.
